Carpet Shampooer Review
86How To Choose A Carpet Shampooer
More and more people are investing in a carpet shampooer for their home. If you are fed up with lugging shampooers back and forth and paying high rental fees, you may want to invest in one for your home. It can be quite handy and will be available whenever you need it for unexpected spills, clean up after pets and children, and other household occurrences. A home shampooer can remove stains and odor and keep your carpets lasting longer.
There are several features you will want to look for when choosing a carpet shampooer. You will want a machine that has good size water tanks. One of the most tedious things about shampooing carpets is having to empty the dirty water and refilling the tank with clean water. The bigger the tank the less times you will need to empty and refill.
You will also want to take in account the brushes on the carpet shampooer. Some machines have fixed brushes and some have rotating ones. Rotating brushes can wear out your carpet more quickly than fixed ones, but they do remove more dirt and stains. If you plan to use your carpet shampooer on a frequent basis consider one with fixed brushes, if you plan to use it only a few times a year consider one with rotating brushes.
Another thing to consider is the attachments the carpet shampooer comes with. Some shampooers come with attachments for stairs and upholstery which can be quite handy. Other shampooers may allow you to buy the attachments at a later date.
One other feature you will want to look for is some shampooers come with a trigger that allow you to control how much cleaning solution to apply. This comes in handy when there are stubborn stains that you need to go over several times.
If you live in a busy household with small children or pets, a home carpet shampooer is almost a no brainer. It will cost far less than having your carpets professionally shampooed or renting a machine. Hoover and Bissell are two of the leading manufacturers of home carpet shampooers. I will review the top shampooers from these two companies below.
Hoover Carpet Shampooer
Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge
This powerful carpet shampooer comes equipped with a 12-amp motor and five spinning brushes that run at either low or high speed. It also has a trigger mechanism in the upright handle which you pull to release the cleaning solution. The shampooer also comes with the Clean Surge feature that can be used to help get out stubborn stains. There is a button on the handle that can be pushed and an extra dose of cleaning solution is released. The Hoover F914-900 comes with two water tanks that keep the clean and dirty water apart. The machine also comes with special attachments for cleaning stairs and upholstery.
The Hoover F5914-900 receives high praise from its owners. Many have reported that this carpet shampooer does just as good a job as a professional cleaning service. They also state that the brushes did a great job of thoroughly cleaning the carpet and that the suction mechanism suctioned up the water which cut down on drying time. The main drawback that people reported was they would like to see a bigger dirty water receptacle and that the water doesn't heat hot enough. Some people boil the water first before use.
Bissell Carpet Shampooer
Bissell 2080 Quicksteamer Powerbrush
The Bissell 2080, at 12 pounds, is a lightweight carpet shampooer that makes shampooing carpets easy and convenient. The machine has a 4-amp motor and power brush, two water tanks, and a removable nozzle. The power brush provides deep carpet cleaning, covering a cleaning path of 8 1/2 inches.
The Bissell 2080 Quicksteamer receives high marks from many satisfied customers. People love the fact that it is lightweight and easy to use. Consumers are generally very satisfied with the cleaning results, although some would like to see bigger water tanks and feel it is better for smaller cleaning jobs. A heavier dutier carpet shampooer may be needed for larger jobs or for getting out the toughest stains.

They sound like good investments but I intend to hire a professional carpet shampooer as I feel it is hard to get a carpet clean and it is just too much work.
Great post
I have been using the Hoover Steamvac for about 2 years now and can highly recommend it.
In fact I think it's a little to good and is probably costing me business - but hey thats okay
Once again great post
Great products!
We have two years in the bedroom carpet "under the baseboard. Its my vacuum cleaner with a liquid carpet, no problem (carpet light cream to medium pile) - like new after washing, and other allergic reactions are not observed. About getting to the gym - I do not know, but in general I really like the cover!
